São Paulo FC, in partnership with blockchain provider Chiliz, is set to launch a Fan Token on fan engagement app Socios.com.
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A team will be the fourth Brazilian club to launch a Fan Token on Socios.com, following Atlético Mineiro, Corinthians, and Flamengo. The agreement will also see São Paulo FC’s $SPFC Fan Token promoted on the pocket space on the club’s shirt.
With 12 international titles and six Brazilian championships to their name, São Paulo is one of the most successful football clubs in Brazil’s history. The club’s home ground, Cicero Pompeu de Toledo or ‘Tricolor Paulista,’ is Brazil’s largest private stadium.
Fan Tokens entitle holders to benefits including voting rights in club polls, along with access to VIP rewards, to exclusive promotions, AR-enabled features, chat forums, games, and competitions on Socios.com.
Julio Casares, President of São Paulo FC, said: “It‘s very gratifying to have Socios.com as our partners and, without a doubt, it’s proof that São Paulo is widely recognized as a global brand. In addition, São Paulo’s insertion into a rapidly expanding universe is yet another initiative that demonstrates the leading spirit that we want to return to the club, which, step by step, we will manage to get there.”
Further details about the São Paulo Fan Token ($SPFC), including launch date, will be published in the near future.
So far, 70 major sporting organisations have partnered with Socios.com to launch their own Fan Tokens, including iconic football clubs like FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, Valencia, Manchester City, Inter Milan, Arsenal, and the Argentina and Portugal national football teams. In the United States, two thirds of NBA franchises have now joined the Socios.com family, and UFC organisations MMA and PFL have launched Fan Tokens. NASCAR, F1, and cricket teams and leagues have also signed up, along with several leading esports organisations.
